Dad always makes sure to bring clothes up from the laundry room straight out of the dryer. He dumps them all on the daybed for me and I burrow into the fresh, hot laundry. It's one of my favorite things.

I know what you're probably thinking: how could they let a dirty little dog romp all over their clean clothes? But I'm an inside dog (especially in winter), remember? My paws are pristine!

I apologize for my lack of posts! I've had a very busy life of eating, sleeping, and lounging that has gotten in the way of blogging. There are a backlog of posts for me to share now; here's an outing my mom and dad took me on this summer. When they pass this dog park, there are usually two long-haired dachshunds frolicking, but alas, I didn't get to meet them on this trip:

So, Dad and I came over here to Maryland for the weekend, since Mom's best friends from high school were visiting our place in NYC. Something about one man, three women, four cats, and one dog in less than 500 square feet not being good... I think it was an excuse for him to watch a lot of football this weekend.

Anyway, we've been chilling here, but I miss my Mama. Then my Dad went on a run for two hours and I got tired of waiting for him. The next best thing to being with him is sleeping on his clothes.

But the best part was being reunited with my first dachshund friend, Gladys. Gladys and I met back in Indianapolis when I was just a pup. Sadly, last year Gladys and her parents moved far away. On Saturday, I was surprised and very happy to discover that Gladys lives here in New York City. We met her and her parents in Greenwich Village and then we all went to the Oktoberfest together. Every year on the first Saturday of October, dachshunds converge on Washington Square Park in New York City to celebrate our heritage.

Despite the forecast for inclement weather, we hopped in a cab and sped uptown to partake in the fun.

On Thursday, Mom and Dad decided to treat me to a day at Camp Bow Wow. When they dropped me off in the morning, my favorite camp counselor, Radinaa, was at the front desk. (I happen to know I'm Radinaa's favorite too; she often plucks me from the masses, brings me up to the front, and lets me sit in her lap.) When I saw her, I ran into her arms and didn't look back, crying out of sheer delight all the while. Mom and Dad have never heard me cry so much and think they're chopped liver now.

Here I am, ensconced comfortably in my new carrier under the seat in front of Mom
on our flight out to Indianapolis (by way of Atlanta). Most other passengers were shocked to learn there was a dog in their midst - I was a very, very good girl. From our cab ride to Laguardia at 6 pm til our arrival in Indianapolis at 3 am, I was accident-free. I think I passed my test with flying colors!

Mom and I have bonded quite a bit these last few days. Last night I helped her paint her nails; tonight we may get ambitious and watch a chick flick. She has brought fro-yo home every night because she knows I enjoy licking the bowl, and even hunted down several bags of "Cheese, Please!" crackers, which we finally ran out of (they dole them out too sparingly if you asked me).

I especially like it when she wears Dad's favorite shirt and lets me sit in her lap like he does:

P.S. Do I look a bit uneven to you? It's because Mom gave me a lopsided haircut a few weeks ago. She used to do the same thing to Dad, until he put his foot down and stopped letting her cut his hair. Wish I had done the same...

I'm not a weiner dog

When people ask what kind of dog Mom and Dad have, their first response is "dachshund." When they're met with a puzzled look in return, Mom and Dad's second response is "weiner dog," and the questioner's eyes always light up.

I'd argue that Bratwurst would be more apt, for two reasons: 1) it's German, like me, and 2) I'm becoming quite a little brat. It all started when we moved to New York. Dad stays home with me all day, and sometimes he'll be on an important-looking phone call or typing frantically on the computer, meaning he isn't devoting one hundred percent of his attention to ME. To rectify this, I have a plethora of tricks up my sleeve: tap dance around at his feet until he grows tired of my shuffling and picks me up, torment the cats until he decides to rescue them and pick me up, and let out one shrill yap to let him know I'm there, waiting to be picked up. Some of these techniques are more effective than others (the latter takes the longest, and hence is only reserved for extreme cases, because he scolds me, I run under the couch and hide, and then he feels guilty and coaxes me out), but in the end, I always end up on his lap.

When Dad has to move, say, to use the bathroom, my brattiness is unfurled like ticker-tape at a parade: I growl at him. But I need to work on my ferociousness, because he just laughs at me.

Here are some of the many reasons I love my Dad:

He's proud to have the same hairstyle as me

He laughs at me when I raid the dirty clothes, instead of taking away the prizes I find

He not only shares food with me, he always reminds Mom to save little bites for me too (she usually forgets me, or perhaps is more conscious of my expanding waistline)

He keeps lobbying to take me on the subway - Mom isn't so sure, but Dad thinks I'll love it!

He and I have lots of conversations during the day, when it's just to two of us

He often brings Mom home from work...

...and on some special afternoons, he and I wait for her out front

He always picks me up during the day while he's working, even if it means he can only type with one arm:

Mom and Dad were walking down a street near our home (without me!) when they spotted a beautiful longhaired red doxie. They struck up a conversation in order to be able to pet him, and once they learned his name - Oscar - Mom mentioned he was a dead ringer for a dog recently featured on one of their favorite blogs, Doxiementary

It turns out to be the very same Oscar! Mom's so proud of her first celebrity sighting.

More than any other cat, Wendell the Siamese is my nemesis. I have never liked him and I'm sure the feeling is mutual. Yet somehow we maintain an uneasy relationship in this 500 square feet apartment.

If Dad is petting Wendell, which he should NOT be doing ever, I always bark right in Wendell's face and send him scurrying on his way. When I'm walking by Wendell, he casually swipes at me with his claws out - sending me scurrying on my way. Bastard.

But strangely the other night this happened. While I was sleeping Wendell reached out and rested his paw on me. No claws even. I didn't know what to do. I was afraid to fall asleep obviously. So I just kept real still until he removed his filthy paw. Then I went to sleep.

Mom, I can't tell you how happy I am that you we are a family again. I missed you so much when you weren't here, but now I get to curl up by your side every night again. There were so many ways that my life wasn't the same, but the main thing is that I missed you. Now, I get to hear your silly voice all the time.
