Dachshund Needs Help Alert

Mom and Dad are all choked up over this story and they both opened up their wallets to donate for Sugar Plum's extensive dental surgery at the North Shore Animal League.

Maybe it's cause she looks a little bit like me... :(

Season's Greetings from Michigan

Mom, Dad, and I are at Grandma and Grandpa's for the holidays. I love to lie by the crackling fire and recharge after being on watch in the kitchen.

Video Time

Dad's finally getting around to playing with the video on his camera. And of course he chose little old me for his subject. Just between us though, I think he kind of half assed this.

Static Cling

Dad is talking about this "static cling" thing. I have no idea what he's talking about, but I love it here in the laundry basket.

Missing My Mom and My Dad

So, Dad and I came over here to Maryland for the weekend, since Mom's best friends from high school were visiting our place in NYC. Something about one man, three women, four cats, and one dog in less than 500 square feet not being good... I think it was an excuse for him to watch a lot of football this weekend.

Anyway, we've been chilling here, but I miss my Mama. Then my Dad went on a run for two hours and I got tired of waiting for him. The next best thing to being with him is sleeping on his clothes.

Dachshund Oktoberfest Continued

There were lots of costumes at the Oktoberfest.

But the best part was being reunited with my first dachshund friend, Gladys. Gladys and I met back in Indianapolis when I was just a pup. Sadly, last year Gladys and her parents moved far away. On Saturday, I was surprised and very happy to discover that Gladys lives here in New York City. We met her and her parents in Greenwich Village and then we all went to the Oktoberfest together. Here's Gladys and I with our parents outside some falafel place.
And here's Gladys.

Oktoberfest: the perfect place for a bratwurst like me

Every year on the first Saturday of October, dachshunds converge on Washington Square Park in New York City to celebrate our heritage.

Despite the forecast for inclement weather, we hopped in a cab and sped uptown to partake in the fun.

Look, a wire-haired doxie! I haven't met many of those. (The dapple pup on the left was a playful little thing!)

Obligatory butt-sniffing:

Showing off my stellar smile:

It rained on our parade and lots of doxies left. Mom and Dad weren't ready to throw in the towel, so we hung around:

I'll post more Oktoberfest pictures tonight, so stay tuned! Also, I'll share pictures of my reunion with my very first dachshund friend, Gladys.

Aaannnd, This is What I Do on Sunny Days

See, this is totally different than what I do on cloudy days. For instance, I'm on the window ledge and...

This is What I Do on Cloudy Days

I just lay here and watch Dad work. Like a friend of ours has said, "It's exhausting!"

Daddy's girl

The St. Michaels house is filled with comfy couches. Dad and I always take advantage!

Corny

Dad shared a cob with me in St. Michaels; I can't decide what I like better: eating the kernels off the ear or playing keep-away when he tried to take it back.

Scavenger

When we spend the weekend in St. Michaels, I am stuck inside for what seems like hours while Mom and Dad sun themselves on the dock. No matter; I find ways to entertain myself.

Amongst the items that Mom and Dad didn't have to put back into the trash when they walked onto this scene: a whole shredded cucumber and manchego cheese rinds.

Don't worry Grandma and Grandpa, everything got cleaned up!

It gets lonely traveling - the dingy hotels, the bad cable programming, the surly employees at the Mariott...so when Mom came back from visiting with her Indianapolis friends, I was ecstatic for to have her company.

The only thing I miss about Indianapolis

On Thursday, Mom and Dad decided to treat me to a day at Camp Bow Wow. When they dropped me off in the morning, my favorite camp counselor, Radinaa, was at the front desk. (I happen to know I'm Radinaa's favorite too; she often plucks me from the masses, brings me up to the front, and lets me sit in her lap.) When I saw her, I ran into her arms and didn't look back, crying out of sheer delight all the while. Mom and Dad have never heard me cry so much and think they're chopped liver now.

Look at my report card! I already can't wait to go back.

Snug as a bug

Here I am, ensconced comfortably in my new carrier under the seat in front of Mom
on our flight out to Indianapolis (by way of Atlanta). Most other passengers were shocked to learn there was a dog in their midst - I was a very, very good girl. From our cab ride to Laguardia at 6 pm til our arrival in Indianapolis at 3 am, I was accident-free. I think I passed my test with flying colors!

Girly time

Mom and I have bonded quite a bit these last few days. Last night I helped her paint her nails; tonight we may get ambitious and watch a chick flick. She has brought fro-yo home every night because she knows I enjoy licking the bowl, and even hunted down several bags of "Cheese, Please!" crackers, which we finally ran out of (they dole them out too sparingly if you asked me).

I especially like it when she wears Dad's favorite shirt and lets me sit in her lap like he does:

She's about to leave for the pet store to buy something - more cheesy treats, perhaps?

Missing my Dad

Dad is away on business yet again and I'm in a decline. I'm so depressed that I plopped down on the newspaper Mom was reading in bed. Little did I know at the time that she was right in the middle of the Times article about flying with your pets on commercial airlines. Hmmmm, I wonder why she was reading that?

Who's Shaggier, me or Dad?

I think Dad wins right now. Although, I hear he's getting his hair cut this week. You know much has been said about me always being in my Dad's arms. Everyone says how I'm such a Daddy's girl. But maybe it's just because I can get a better view of my Mom from his arms!

First NYC Taxi Trip!

Hmmm, what would be the best route to take?

Driver, south on Greenwich, please!

Now I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride.
